Grandparents and George Turns 3

I am so behind with this whole blogging thing. A full month has flown by and I haven't posted a bit about all the things we've been doing. This, of course, means that we've been doing a lot. So lets go back to the second week in August. 

My parents came up for the week of George's birthday and they were able to experience the reason we put up with terrible winters. Summer in NH is bliss. We took them to a concert in the park, local ice cream spot and our favorite burger joint down on the river.  

George was pretty much attached to Nonno the whole 5 days they were in town.

 

George turned 3 on August 16th. We had planned a little cowboy and indian party outside but sadly 15 minutes before it started the rain clouds rolled in. It was a bit crazy with all the little kids packed in the house. 

Thankfully the rain let up enough to start a fire and let the kids make s'more's. 

Sunday morning we were actually ready for church early! This meant we had to get a few pictures of everyone dressed up.

Sunday was his actual birthday so we did a second little celebration in the back yard. 

Let the dirt bike craziness begin!

So far we've only wrecked once and George now knows how to go left, right, and straight. Progress is being made!!

Undone Saturday

A few weeks ago we had planned to go hiking in the White Mountains with the kids. There are so many things we want to do when it's warm and hiking was high on that list. Sadly we pushed the kids too hard that week and by Saturday they were shot. 

We spent over an hour trying to get out the door while Edith cried and George got into mischief. It was a terrible morning and we finally gave up and put Edith to bed while George and Nathan went and ran errands.

After naps we regrouped and decided to hike a few short trails around Dover that we hadn't tried out yet. Of course, we had to get ice cream on the way. George knows our local spot and we can't drive by without him asking to get a cone.

This little man is going to be 3 next week!!

We found a great spot on the river for the kids to play. I'm thankful that children are happy with simple things. Only Nathan and I were disappointed with the failed attempts to make it to the mountains.

Tall Ships

So our kids have been extra crazy the last few weeks. Like the kind of crazy that makes you vow never to take them out in public again. Well, then I got word that the tall ships were coming to Portsmouth. We've missed them the last few years and I didn't want to pass up seeing them again.

George was so very excited when I told him that we were going to see a big ship. The weather was perfect and the kids were, so far, acting pretty well. 

George was in awe of everything. I can't blame him since he was probably one of the smallest things on the ship.

 

I tried to get a picture of them together but Edith was too keen to run away.

As we were leaving George was very sad that we had to get off the boat. I asked him if he wanted to live on the boat and he said "yes!". 

I learned nothing about the boat since I was busy holding a toddler and making sure George wasn't going to plunge into the water below. Here is all the info on the glorious ship if you care to read.

Warm-er Summer Nights

 I feel like this summer is slipping away and we can't do anything about it. Summers are just so easy and fun! The kids wander in and out of the house without the need of extra layers of clothing and there are endless amounts of outdoor events. It's hard not to dread cooler days when summer is so delightful. 

We are doing our best to soak up every minute of this glorious weather. Every night we are out exploring and going for walks.

As I was taking this picture Nathan and I were instructing George to stop his bike. Of course, he didn't stop and headed straight toward the river. Thankfully a bush slowed him down enough for Nathan to catch him. Oh, this crazy boy!

Outdoor free concerts are one of our favorite summer activities. They typically start early which is great for those of with little ones. This last Wednesday we went to the concert at our local library.The kids were already getting tired so we only made it  through 3 songs.
