One Morning In Maine

Nathan had the week after 4th of July off so we did a little exploring close to home. One morning we got up and headed over to Kittery, Maine. We had been told by multiple people to check out Lil's Cafe. Apparently they make a mean cruller, and we decided it was time to give it a try.
Oh boy! Did that cruller not disappoint! It was by far the best donut I've ever had. We also tried their biscuits with egg and cheese and also a cappuccino. It was a so very yummy and we will definitely be back.

After breakfast we walked around a bit. We had never explored Kittery yet so it was a fun to see a bit of a new spot.

Folk is a little shop that sells a lot of local and US made items. They had a beautiful straw hat that I really liked but sadly they didn't have my size.

A view of Portsmouth from across the river.

On our way out before heading to the York Zoo Nathan I split a smoothie from Maine Squeeze. It was the perfect refuel before taking on the zoo.

Sadly by the time we made it to the zoo the kids were getting pretty tired. I was hoping to see an elephant, giraffe and maybe a rhino. There were a lot of monkey's and a zebra, lion, and tiger but that was about as exciting as it got.

Even being tired the kids really enjoyed it. I thought Edith might fall asleep in the Ergo but she's so crazy about animals she was way too excited for a nap.

It was a great day spending time together as a family. I'll take a fun day anytime!

Escape To Birmingham

My wonderful parents kept our hooligans for two nights after my brothers wedding so we could have a little mini vacation. We spent the night in Newnan, GA the night of the wedding and then drove to Birmingham, AL the next morning. Oh, and we slept in until 9 on Sunday!!! That hasn't happened since George was born.

We arrived in Birmingham just in time for lunch and tried a Thai place that was recommended by a friends sister. I was very, very tasty. Surin was the name of the restaurant and it's located in five-points.

There was a little mix up with our check-in time so we happened upon World of Beer and had a few pints while watching the woman's collage world series.

After checking in at the bed and breakfast we headed up the hill to Vulcan Park. Sadly we didn't make it to the park before they closed. The walk was a bit further than it looked.

Vulcan happens to be the largest cast iron statue in the world. You can read more and watch a video about it's history here.

We stayed at the Hassinger Daniels Mansion in five points. It's a beautiful old house that had been restored and turned into a bed and breakfast.

Our Camelot room came complete with Guinevere, Arthur and his horse. It was a little odd but apparently the in-keepers husband runs a carving school in the basement and carved the horse.

Before headed home on Monday we stopped by Barber Motorsports Museum. We could have easily have spent the whole day there. The amount of motorbikes to on display is a bit overwhelming.

It was a great little getaway and always fun going somewhere you've never been...even if it's Alabama.

A Week of Vacation and A Very Sick Baby

So Nathan has a week of vacation in March and went spent most the time around the house.
George and I went on a little date to one of your favorite coffee/tea shops. It's so fun hanging out with him by himself. He has so much to say and usually I hear about half since I'm focusing on him and Edith.

Edith got to have extra snuggle time with daddy.

St. Patty's fell during vacation week so I made green biscuits for breakfast.

We did a little walking around UNH one day since they were on spring break. It was a bit warmer...like 34.

Towards the end of the week we headed to Wells, Maine for a few nights. We stayed in a condo with a full kitchen and they had an indoor pool. Both of those were the main reasons for choosing the spot. George loved the pool and the hot tub!!

We had lunch at a local restaurant but by this time the kids were starting to feel sick so it wasn't much fun.

Our second night at the beach I finally took Edith to the urgent care. She ended up having pneumonia! At this point we had been up a couple nights in a row with her so we were super tired. The medicine started to kick in so she slept most of the night but then George started getting sick.
So both nights we were up and Edith didn't get to swim at all and we didn't get any chilly walks on the beach. It was pretty miserable.

On the positive side Congdon's donuts are pretty amazing so we got a box before packing up and heading home.

One day we'll go back when the kids are well and it's warm.

Georgia Trip: Part 2

After a few days with my family we headed south to visit Nathans family and some close friends. It was nap time towards the end of our drive and George, of course, fell asleep in the last 10 minutes. Traveling is hard on kiddies.

The weather was a little cooler the begin of our week but warmed up once we were in south GA. It was great though because George pretty much played in the water the last 3 days. New Hampshire has been WAY too cool this summer and I'm very disappointed that we haven't been able to run in the sprinkler and play in the pool except for a few times.

We had dinner with our good friends the Madsons & Carrolls on Tuesday evening. It was a great time catching up.
This picture is blurry but I had to post it. It's too cute.

Love and miss these ladies...us trying to get ourselves together for a picture :)

Water park time!!! George had a blast!

He even made a little friend.

Mamaw and the blue-eyed grandbabies

George learned how to use the sprayer on the hose and how to spray people with it.

Attacking the cousins with water.

The one and only picture of the cousins together.

We had a crazy trip back on Friday. Our flight out of Savannah was canceled so we drove to SC and flew on this tiny airplane (below) to Charlotte. Our flight from Charlotte to Boston was delayed and then we missed the bus to NH by 3 minutes. The kids did amazingly well considering what we put them through. We arrived home 6 hours later than planned but we got here safely.

We had such a fun time and George is already asking to go back.
